Jim Campbell: Ambiguous Icon (Running, Falling) Jim Campbell’s work reveals the technology at work behind the digital images and computer screens that transfix us. Ambiguous Icons explores the relationship between digital information and the reception of this information. Through his use of an LED screen, comprised of a grid of bulbs that emit varying degrees of red light, Campbell is able to compress the millions of pixels in a digital video into a reduced amount of visual information. This causes the images to appear pixilated, shadowy and fragmented. This vague quality of Campbell’s imagery is intentional, allowing for the fact that the human eye will instinctively compensate for gaps due to the lack of digital information. ALSO SEE
