For many of us, hair is an expression of identity. What does your hair say about you? How does it symbolize who you are? Have you ever thought of your hair as a way to connect with your community?

FWM invites you to celebrate the historic process of weaving and its parallels to hair braiding, defined as "the original fiber art" by artist Sonya Clark. As part of her exploration of cultural symbols, Clark's work has long investigated African hairstyles and their relationship to weaving and other textile processes.

Join us for an afternoon of printing, weaving, braiding, music, and making, featuring:

hair braiding sessions with local experts | DIY hair accessories and extensions | studio portraits | weaving demos | screen-printing braid-inspired patterns (bring your own shirt, tote, etc. to print on) | gallery tours | music | snacks and refreshments
