Woven Together is a multi-generational workshop that will explore family stories and heritage through braiding, weaving, and printing traditions. The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) and The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) have joined forces to celebrate our concurrent exhibitions: Monumental Cloth, The Flag We Should Know and Self-Evident, respectively. Sonya Clark is a textile and social practice artist who integrates ubiquitous objects like combs, hair, and cloth into a symbolic language designed to “give voice to the complexity of American identity and history.”

Individuals and families welcome for this free, public event. Create your own woven prints, construct personal looms out of hair picks, try out traditional weaving processes, and learn up to three new hair braiding techniques from local experts! Refreshments and woven treats will be provided. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required.
